Jerry,
I came across your site while looking for a HINDER song for my playlist on MySpace. My brother was also in a car accident at the age of 21 and lived for 11 yrs in a care home after suffering a brain injury that affected his spinal cord. After being in and out of the hospital he contracted MRSA and it slowly took over his body. In 1997 he finally got what he wanted "to go home". He was my closest friend. The one thing my brother taught me was to Live for Today, and that "things happen for a reason". His accident has helped me appreciate live and to enjoy each new day.
I am glad to see that you were able to recover and live a very normal life. I am sorry to hear that your marriage didn't work out. It sounds like you aren't letting it stop you just like your accident hasn't. Thank you for showing the world that people with spinal cord injuries can go on and live outside in this not so normal world.

Hey stranger!! Jerry, I was at the hospital almost every day after your accident. I also came to your house every single day for a long time just to keep you company. I'm not sure if you remember or not. You're truly the definition of a fighter and an inspiration. I remember some very dark times in your life right after the accident. I unfortunately have heard many stories like yours, but more unfortunately have heard many stories of individuals that don't have the strength of character that you have displayed. We are always trying to improve the "System" from point of injury through rehab, transition and community involvement. This is so those who tend to slip through the gaps actually don't slip through the gaps and learn to participate in life in their own unique way.
